Get trained to become a wildflower ranger and eat the weeds!
by Sara Swanson
Explore our region’s beautiful diversity of spring ephemeral wildflowers and get trained as a Wildflower Ranger through hands-on, service-learning activity removing spring invasive plants right here in Manchester on Wednesday, May 22, from 1pm to 4pm, in the Leonard Preserve. Learn the basics of spring edible weeds. Attend a training session, then volunteer two more times on your own to become a Wildflower Ranger, earning a certificate, a T-shirt, and bragging rights.
Register at parksonline.ewashtenaw.org, click on “Volunteer Opportunities” then on “WILDFLOWER RANGERS | EAT THE WEEDS! — VOL842102”. The Leonard Preserve is located just west of the city limits on Union Street. Snacks and gloves provided. Bring a water bottle. For questions or cancellations, contact the volunteer coordinator at parks-volunteering@washtenaw.org.
