Track Recap — Grass Lake Dual
submitted by Michael Coltre, Manchester Flying Dutchmen Track and Field program coach
Last Tuesday, the Dutch had a big night on the Track! In a race not only against Grass Lake, but also the weather, the men’s team locked in 2nd place in the East Division with a grind-it-out 75.5-61.5 win. The boys finish the dual meet season with a 4-1 record!
The men’s meet was close throughout. Early wins by Sawyer Lutton in the 110m hurdles, Alexander Woods in the 100m and T-1st in the high jump, Grant Johnson in long jump, Cody Branner’s 1st in disc, and the 1-2 finish of Nathan Fletcher and Branner in the shot kept the Dutch in it, but the deciding stretch was started with a Carson Horky win in the 400m, followed up by a Grant Johnson 1st in the 300m hurdles, a Morris Pengel and Cade Sayer 1-2 finish in the 800m, a Grant Johnson and Carson Horky 1-2 finish in the 200m, a Hunter Anderson 1st place in the 3200m, and the electric 4x400m relay team of Cade, Harper Doyle, Luis Baron, and Grant putting the punction on the meet! The Dutch, as has been the case throughout much of the year, got contributions in all areas, which has made them so competitive this year.
The girls, facing arguably the strongest women’s team in the conference, lost 40.5-95.5. They put up a great fight and exceeded the meet simulation! The girls finish the dual meet season 3-2 and in 3rd place in the East Division. Lots of great performances on the night. Siera Jedele PR’ed in all three open events she ran, which included the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 200m. Abbi Austin PR’ed in both the long jump and 100m. Eline Dumont PR’ed in both the PV and 800m. Olivia Woods ran a PR time in the 100m. Teagan Clarke ran a PR in the mile by 5 seconds! Valorie Hieber ran a PR in the 400m. Meghan McLennan ran an 8-second PR in the 800m!

This week, on Saturday, May 18, the Flying Dutchmen will travel to Adrian Madison for their D3 Regional where they hope to run their best times of the year and get people through to the State meet. Competition at the Regional will start at 9am and will have events going through the morning and early afternoon. Go, Dutch!
