Girls’ 4x400m Relay — Caroline Mason, Valorie Hieber, Ellie Marsh, and Eline Dumont at the Selby Meet.

submitted by Coach Michael Coltre, Manchester Flying Dutchmen Track and Field program coach

Tuesday, May 28, on an evening that started out rainy and a bit chilly, the Dutch traveled to the prestigious Selby Classic at Jackson High School. This is a great opportunity to run against the bigger schools in the area and we look forward to qualifying and competing for this meet every season.

Some standout performances:

  • Grant Johnson took 2nd in the 300H with a PR (41.22)
  • Siera Jedele took 3rd in the 300H
  • Nathan Fletcher threw over 130’ again in disc to take 6th
  • Cade Sayer PR’ed in the 800m for 7th (2:10.33)
  • Our women’s 4x400m relay of Valorie Hieber, Ellie Marsh, Eline Dumont, and Caroline Mason nearly tied their season-best time!
  • Our women’s 4x800m relay of Meghan McLennan, Julia Gratacos Jodar, Amanda Hieber, and Caroline Mason took 4th!

On Saturday, June 1, in Kent City our sophomores, Siera Jedele and Grant Johnson, took on the best of D3, and they fit right in with the best of them! We traveled up the day before so we could practice on the track and get adjusted to the surroundings and finalize last-minute prep. It’s a unique experience to do this since all the rest of the State Qualifiers are up there practicing as well. Grant got to work with some of his rivals from Napoleon that hurdled and Siera was able to spend time on her 100m hurdle starts.

  • Siera took 27th in the 100m hurdles. She was the 5th-best sophomore in the State in D3! Next year we move to D4 and she is currently ranked the 6th-top returner in her event for next season!
  • Grant ran his second-best 400m time of the season in 51.79, which was good for 17th overall. He is the 4th-ranked sophomore in D3 in the 400m! He would be the 4th-ranked returner overall in the 400m for next year in D4!
  • Grant’s second event, which was back-to-back, in the 300m hurdles, he took 19th overall. It was his third-best time of the season. He is currently ranked the 3rd-best returner in D4 for next season!

The future is bright for these two if they continue to improve and develop! They are not the only ones with big things in store for next year, though. Stay tuned!

On Wednesday, June 5, the Track team had their Awards Banquet. Coach Coltre was extremely happy about the attendance. 44 of our 51 athletes attended, which was great, and the Commons was full!
