Dementia-friendly showing of “Groundhog Day“ in Saline
by Sara Swanson
We reported last month on Saline earning Dementia Friendly status and the nonprofit Dementia Friendly Saline. Kelsey Keyes, program coordinator of Dementia Friendly Saline, reached out and is inviting Manchester area residents to America’s first Dementia Friendly movie program on Saturday, August 24, at Emagine Theater in Saline. She explained, “This special Saturday showing of Groundhog Day will be a safe and friendly environment for persons with brain changes, caregivers, and anyone else who wants to join in the fun!”
Groundhog Day is a 1993 American fantasy-romantic comedy film directed by Harold Ramis, starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott. It tells the story of a cynical television weatherman covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Penn., who becomes trapped in a time loop, forcing him to relive February 2 repeatedly.
Emagine Theater is located at 1335 E Michigan Ave, on the east side of Saline. Doors open at 1pm. There will be a welcome table. Tickets cost $5 per person and includes popcorn, soda, and a light buffet. Snacks, film facts, and fun will begin at 1:15pm. The movie will begin at 2pm. Lights will be on and the sound will be lower than usual. Hold on to your ticket stub as there will be a prize drawing immediately after the movie ends at about 4pm. Please check dfsaline.org for more information or contact dementiafriendlysaline@gmail.com or kelsey.dfsaline@gmail.com with questions about the event.
