The Manchester Jr/Sr High School October Students of the Month are Madeline Zahner (7th), Makenzy Payton (8th), Freshman Ryker Kleinschmidt, Sophomore Amanda Hieber, Junior Carl Casey, and Senior Vance Williams.

Madeline Zahner has a full schedule, especially for seventh grade. She balances athletics (cross-country and soccer), band, and her schoolwork, plus participates in SRSLY and community events. Most recently, she helped with Haunted Hallways. Madeline describes herself as a kind, respectful person who does a lot for others.

Eighth grader Makenzy Payton also describes herself as a kind person. She volunteers with her uncle at the apple pumpkin festival, acts responsibly, and encourages others to do their best.

Freshman Ryker Kleinschmidt tries his hardest both in and out of school. He is always wishing teachers and classmates a good day, helps others, studies, and turns in assignments. Ryker participates in football, helped with some wrestling events and the Homecoming parade, and is in the Student Council.

Sophomore Amanda Hieber has demonstrated exceptional character through her effective study habits, positive attitude, and a plethora of extracurricular activities. Amanda participates in track and field, marching band, the Manchester Swine Club, and Washtenaw County 4-H.

Many people know Junior Carl Casey from his work in robotics. As a high school student, he serves as a mentor to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade robotics students. He also participates in marching band and is an active member of the Manchester High School Improvement Team.

Senior Vance Williams is a well-respected member of our community. Even students who don’t know him well say that he always has a positive attitude. Vance participates in football, Link Crew, and the Student Council. He also announces at JV football games and is working with the Student Council on organizing a can drive for Thanksgiving. Vance works hard, always pays attention in class, and makes sure to get his work done, but he also enjoys having fun and always tries to lift up the spirits of those around him.
