Feonix Mobility Rising, a transportation hub operating in Washtenaw County, recently held a transportation focus group in Manchester. The purpose of the focus group was to gather information and feedback on the transportation needs of our community. Senior Community Development Manager Rebecca Yaciuk presented an introduction to Feonix services to members of the Manchester community. The focus group was organized by the Manchester Community Resource Center and Carol, Melissa, Pat, and Sharon from the CRC were in attendance, as well as other interested individuals. Also in attendance were “Mobility Navigators” from Feonix.

Yaciuk described a no-cost program that is opened to all older adults ages 60 plus in Washtenaw County. Feonix Senior Community Advisors were on hand to provide information and answer questions. The goal is to provide the necessary transportation to health care, medical care, and food access. Feonix is available to provide transit assistance and mobility solutions for residents of Manchester. Feonix connects people with Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express (WAVE), taxi transport, and private drivers as examples. The contact phone is (734) 259-4125 and the website is www.feonix.org. Feonix runs Monday through Friday, 6am to 11pm, and Saturday, 8am to 6pm. The Feonix Transportation Assistance Hub (THA) provides a one-stop-shop technology platform and hands-on support.

Feonix representatives also explained a mobility wallet that can be used for fare-free transportation or vouchers as needed; call and consult to choose the best personal option. You have 30 days to complete the assessment, then you’ll receive the wallet or voucher. Funds are given to first-come, first-served applications. Feonix can also refer you to programs that provide financial assistance or fare-free rides.

Shasta Grifka, Community Relations Coordinator from WAVE, also attended. She gave information on their program. Rides on WAVE require 72-hour notice. WAVE can be contacted at ridethewavebus.org or (734) 433-1338.  Feonix is one way to connect with WAVE. It was explained that schedules are flexible, striving to meet all needs, and no one is left without transportation if appointments run late. WAVE provides discounted transportation “Door to Door” and “One Stop” rides.
