With the general election now complete, Alyshia Dyer has been elected as the next Sheriff of Washtenaw County. She will make history as the first woman and youngest person to serve in this role. Sheriff-Elect Dyer is eager to begin her work in the spirit of community collaboration and service.

Sheriff-Elect Dyer and her team have been dedicated to centering the voices of the community throughout her journey. To celebrate this historic achievement, all community members are invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony on December 3, 2024, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College. This event will be an opportunity for community members, campaign staff, supporters, and others to commemorate this milestone and launch the next chapter of Dyer’s vision for Washtenaw County. The Honorable Erane Washington will preside over the ceremony, with Washtenaw County Clerk Lawrence Kestenbaum presenting Sheriff-Elect Dyer with her certificate of office. RSVPs are encouraged to help accommodate all who wish to attend.

“I am thrilled and ready to get to work,” Dyer shared. “This ceremony represents the power of community and collaboration. It’s a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together to create lasting, positive change. We have a long road ahead, and the policy teams are just the start of my commitment to keep the community at the heart of our work. I look forward to serving all residents of Washtenaw County.”

As her first agenda item, Sheriff-Elect Dyer will establish Community-Driven Policy Teams. These teams will allow residents and stakeholders to shape the strategic direction of the Sheriff’s Office, ensuring it continues to reflect the shared values of the community. Sign-ups for these teams will be ongoing, and will start when her term begins in January 2025.
