With the holiday season still in full swing, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) is reminding Michiganders to celebrate responsibly by planning ahead for safe transportation home from gatherings and ensuring alcohol is kept out of the hands of minors.

“As Michiganders head out for holiday get-togethers that involve alcohol, it is important to plan ahead to ensure everyone on the road is safe,” said MLCC Chair Kristin Beltzer.

Before attending any holiday celebration where alcohol may be served, you should remember to have a plan in place. Designate a sober driver in your party, download ridesharing apps like Uber or Lyft, and stand your ground if you feel pressured to drink. Taking these steps will help ensure you and those around you get home safely.

Making responsible decisions is critical even if participants do not leave their homes. Parents and homeowners must never provide alcohol to minors. Doing so can result in serious legal consequences, including civil and/or criminal liability. This holiday season, we want everyone to enjoy the festivities responsibly.

For information regarding holiday retail hours for businesses that sell and serve alcohol, please visit the MLCC website. The MLCC wishes all Michiganders a safe and happy holiday season.

The mission of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission is to make alcoholic beverages available for consumption while protecting the consumer and the general public through regulation of those involved in the sale and distribution of these products.
