Job Description
Position: Part-time Drinking Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Summary
The Part-time Drinking Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is to perform functions within the Department of Public Works (DPW) and routine lab tests and analysis and maintenance to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. The Operator is to work under the supervision of the Superintendent of Drinking Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Assistant Superintendent of Drinking Water/ Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Supervision Received
Work is performed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Drinking Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Assistant Superintendent of Drinking Water/ Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Responsibilities and Duties
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- General Maintenance-Perform general maintenance duties around Wastewater Treatment Plant, including housekeeping, weed eating, repair of maintenance items, painting, etc.
- Backup Lab Analysis-Performing regulatory and process control lab analysis; Routine and regular operational control of plant processes based on interpretation of lab data; Routine laboratory testing and data collection for water systems; Keeps current lab inventory.
- Responsibilities-Regular and required communication with supervisors and other employees of the City; Responsible for the Preventative Maintenance Program and scheduled plant maintenance; Lab up-keep and general house-keeping of lab and treatment facilities; Respond to emergency calls (be on call during evenings, weekends, and holidays).
- Safety-Responsible for proper use of equipment in the laboratory as well as the treatment facilities; Maintains First Aid and safety equipment.
- Weekly Duties– This position will work up to 30 hours a week. Position will be required to work a weekend a month, at minimum, plus holidays.
Employment Qualifications
- Possess the ability to work toward Michigan Wastewater D License
- Possess the ability work toward Michigan Distribution (S-3) and Limited Treatment (D-3) Drinking Water Licenses
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with supervisors and other employees
- Must be able to lift 125 lbs
