Community Bible Church brings suicide prevention training to Manchester
by Sara Swanson
According to the CDC, suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S. While it may seem overwhelming and hopeless, Community Bible Church wants you to know that there is something you can do: educate yourself. And they are providing the community an opportunity to do just that.
Community Bible Church is joining with SafeTalk to present training in becoming suicide-alert on March 29 from 9am to 12:30pm at the church, located at 8400 Sharon Hollow Rd. Learn how to recognize signs and offer life-affirming help. Open to ages 15 and above. Childcare will be available.
Registration is required and space is limited. Registration costs $25 but this will be refunded (minus a $2 fee) on completion of the training. Register by emailing KierstensRide@outlook.com, visiting their website at KierstensRide.org, or calling 231-675-5047.
SafeTALK is a half-day alertness training that prepares anyone 15 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. SafeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources.
SafeTALK is a widely used and well-regarded program that is recognized for continuing education credit by the National Association for Social Workers and Michigan Department of Education.
The training is being run by Kiersten’s Ride, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing help, hope, and healing through suicide prevention programs and committed to educating the communities so that lives may be saved.
Childcare and support for this training is being offered by Community Bible Church.
