‘Manchester Mirror‘ holding open house!
by Sara Swanson and Marsha Chartrand
If you are an avid or even occasional reader of the Manchester Mirror then you probably know that we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by volunteers. And while we periodically put out a call for more volunteers, for the first time we are organizing an in-person event around it. On Saturday, February 22, from noon to 2pm, the Manchester Mirror will be holding an open house at the Manchester District Library located at 912 City Rd. Are you interested in volunteering? Do you have an idea for a monthly column you want to pitch us? Do you want to cover a specific high school sport? Are you plugged into the goings-on in a township and willing to write the occasional article? Do you work at a school and want everyone to know about the cool stuff going on? Come talk to us at the open house! There will be cookies!
In addition to writers, which we are in the most need of, we have a variety of non-writing opportunities for volunteering. We could use help with billing, managing and mailing subscriptions, selling ads, and managing classifieds. If you want to help with more esoteric projects, we need someone familiar with programming to help us reestablish the Manchester Enterprise database, someone to photograph and upload a bound volume of Enterprises not currently digitized, and someone with bookbinding experience to bind the first decade of the Mirror into volumes.
We are committed to keeping the Mirror up and running but with only a couple of us actively writing articles and running everything on the backend, we are very limited on where we can go, who we can talk to, and what we can cover. If even a few more volunteers came aboard we could expand the content to be a fuller, more vibrant reflection of our community. If you are unable to attend the open house but want to volunteer, please email us at themanchestermirror@gmail.com.
We are endlessly grateful for the volunteers that we do have, our copy editor, our pick-up and delivery team, and our regular (and semi-regular) contributors. We are also grateful for our donors who help us keep the presses running and the website up. Thank you, everyone, and we hope to talk to you in person at the open house!
