Karl Victor Dettling (January 10, 1951 – January 25, 2025)
Karl Dettling, age 74, passed away on the morning of January 25, 2025, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, with his brother Bob at his side. Born January 10, 1951, to Victor and Dolores Dettling Karl was a life-long resident of Manchester, Michigan. He is survived by his siblings, Janis Lamey, Gloria Mann (Bob), Barry Dettling (Liz), and Bob Dettling, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Karl graduated from Manchester High School in 1969. Being a good mechanic, he will always be remembered for his sports car he designed and built. Karl also used his skills to build guitars for himself and other people. Karl was very proud of his friendship with Mike (Cub) Koda. They would get together and practice guitar techniques. Karl would often say that the character of Fang in the song “Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room” was him, and Cub would often call him Fang.
Growing up at Pleasant Lake, he had a love for water skiing, fishing, swimming, and boating. Karl will always be remembered for the hat he wore, the pipe he smoked, and playing guitar. You would often see him riding around town on his moped.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Dettling and Dolores Dettling. Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering will take place at a later date.
