Just in time for Valentine’s Day, children at Luther C. Klager Elementary School learned about heart health and how they can save lives with hands-only CPR. For the month of February, the children of Klager are participating in an American Heart Association fundraiser: Heart Heroes. Children have been raising funds for the American Heart Association, earning prizes, and on Friday learned about hands-only CPR with the help of their stuffed animals during an all-school assembly. Under the guidance of American Heart Association team leader Margo Trammel, the children learned how to save lives and practiced performing hands-only CPR on their stuffed animals. The district’s school nurse, Nurse Roth, was also on hand to provide support at the event.

The fundraising from the American Heart Association goes toward supporting heart research grants. This funding impacts research grants in the state of Michigan, including locally at the University of Michigan. If you would like to learn more about the fundraiser to support this cause, please visit Klager’s American Heart Association website at: http://www2.heart.org/goto/klager
