The Humane Society of Huron Valley’s Friends for Life program, which held a free dog and cat vaccine clinic last spring in Manchester, will be returning again this year! On Saturday, May 10, they will be holding another free pet vaccine at Manchester United Methodist Church located at 501 Ann Arbor St.
Check-in for the clinic will take place from 9am to 11am. Checking in will get you on the waitlist. The cut-off time for getting on the waitlist is 11am but vaccinations will continue into the afternoon (determined by supplies and capacity). Vaccinations will go in waitlist order and will start at approximately 9:30am. Vaccines and microchips will be first-come, first-served while supplies last.
This free vaccine clinic is for dog and cat owners in Washtenaw County who:
- Are seniors or
- Are facing housing insecurity or
- Qualify for low-income services or
- Are experiencing extreme financial hardship
Services available for dogs include rabies — 1-year or 3-year (3-year with proof of previous vaccination); distemper — booster, annual, or 3-year, depending on age and previous vaccine history (covers distemper, hepatitis, parvo virus, and parainfluenza); and 24PetWatch Microchip ID.
Services available for cats include rabies — 1-year or 3-year (3-year with proof of previous vaccination), distemper — booster, annual, or 3-year, depending on age and previous vaccine history (covers feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia); and 24PetWatch Microchip ID.
Please bring any proof of previous vaccination with you. If you’re an HSHV clinic client, please call 734-662-4365 the week before to receive up-to-date vaccine records via email. All dogs must be on a non-retractable leash and all cats must be in a carrier.
When you arrive, park in any of the available parking spaces. Ensure your pets are safe in your vehicle and have appropriate ventilation. Proceed to the “Check-In Line Starts Here” banner. Once you are checked in by HSHV staff/volunteers and added to the virtual waitlist, you’ll return to your car to complete the required vaccination forms (one form per pet). The veterinary staff will review all documentation to ensure your pet is receiving the appropriate vaccination(s). To prevent crowding and animal stress, please stay in your car (or in the designated waiting area if on foot) until it is your turn. You’re welcome to visit the community program tables, free pet supplies, and the nail groomer while you wait. When it is your turn for vaccinations, you will be notified by text message or email, depending on the information you provided at check-in. To allow them to help as many dogs and cats as safely and stress-free as possible, please do not approach the vaccination site until it is your turn, and follow all instructions provided by staff and volunteers. Vaccines will be administered outside under covered awnings or inside in a secure room (per the discretion of the staff).
The clinic is weather dependent and in the case of severe weather, the clinic may be canceled. See their Facebook page or hshv.org/FriendsforLife for additional and up-to-date information.
Friends for Life’s goal is to help protect the bond between people and their companion animals, particularly for seniors and others struggling to care for their pet. They thank Manchester United Methodist Church for hosting again this year!
