Farmers Market Season is knocking at the door! Manchester Farmers Market — Thursdays, May 15–October 16, 3–6pm, Adrian and Main streets.
Now that the winter has wound down, excitement for fun activities and great vendors is building for May 15, opening day for the 2025 market season! Marketgoers can expect new and returning vendors whose booths will be filled with tons of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods — everything that makes farmers markets great! It’s easy to fill your grocery basket with a wide variety of delicious foods with same-day freshness and pick up gifts for the special people in your life.
Offerings from market vendors are too numerous to print! The primary draw, the fruit and vegetable vendors, will have a changing inventory throughout the season. Some examples include starting spring with radishes, lettuce, spinach, strawberries, and green onions, moving into summer tomatoes, peppers, sweet corn, basil, and peaches. The summer will finish off with hearty choices like beets, potatoes, winter squashes, grapes, and pears. Every week, bakers will deliver sourdough loaves, sandwich bread, rolls, bagels, cookies, pretzels, sweet rolls, coffee cake, and more! Chicken and duck eggs will be on hand to go with that breakfast. Plants and cut flowers will be appearing as they are ready to be planted and enjoyed. New vendors will be tempting shoppers with coffee, chocolate, children’s books, and some amazing surprises — like locally made WINE! Crafters are scheduled throughout the season with perfect gifts and crafts like jewelry, crochet toys and housewares, birdhouses and feeders, and game boards, as well as gourmet dog treats!
Each week, there is FREE programming for shoppers. From the Garden Club passing out herb pot kits to Library story time to local musicians setting the mood, Manchester residents will be learning, doing, and making new friends all summer. In May, the market will see the return of Bee Present Honey, who bring pollinator learning games as well as a visible hive! June is Dairy Month, and shoppers will get a chance to meet and learn about dairy goats at the market. Activities that are still to be scheduled include Bike Day, where folks can meet other cycling enthusiasts, learn about local trails, and get their bikes tuned up. The Manchester Men’s Club will be hosting a Corn Roast at the market, where they will pass out free, fresh-roasted corn to hungry shoppers. And how about the Chili Cook-off? It was a huge hit last year, and it’s coming back bigger and more fun!
Some of the most exciting news this year is the recent approval of SNAP transactions at the market. If you are a food assistance recipient, you can bring your Bridge Card to the info booth during market hours to purchase tokens that can be spent at all market vendors with eligible foods like produce, bread, eggs, and coffee. CRC Wooden Nickels and St Joe’s Senior Market Bucks will continue to be accepted. However, due to some changes in WIC and Senior Project Fresh (not Senior Market Bucks), and the end of the FMR coupon program, the market will no longer accept these types of payment. The MFM has not yet been approved for a Double Up Food Bucks grant but will qualify next year. For information about how to sign up for these programs, please contact the CRC — 710 E Main St, 734-428-7722.
For more details, you can follow the Manchester Farmers Market on Facebook, Instagram, or sign up for the weekly e-newsletter to receive info, vendor lists, recipes, vendor profiles, and fun straight to your email inbox on Tuesdays during the market season. Don’t forget that the MFM is a rain-or-shine market, so don’t let a few summer raindrops discourage you from getting the freshest food the area has to offer!
