Manchester Jr/Sr High School is happy to recognize the amazing students who earned Student of the Month in April.
When a student is struggling in class, Harper Puscas can often be found by their side, trying to help them understand. In fact, she was selected by her math teacher to help her peers when the teacher is absent. Helping people is important to Harper, who recently donated her old toys and books to kids in need. “They need them more than I do,” Harper explained. In addition to serving as a role model in class and in the community, Harper is a three-sport athlete, keeping busy every season with volleyball, basketball, and softball.
Eighth grader Ben Escabalzeta is also a hard worker. He strives to keep his grades up and assignments turned in on time, setting a good example for his classmates. Ben is also very respectful and tries to treat everyone with kindness and respect.
Freshman Macie Felczak balances two sports while maintaining good grades. She demonstrates a strong work ethic and participates in her classes. Above all, Macie takes her education seriously and has a positive attitude toward school.
Like Macie, sophomore Ava Rentfro demonstrates a positive attitude, showing respect to all of her peers and teachers. Ava participates in three sports — volleyball, basketball, and softball — while excelling in academics, leadership, and extracurricular activities. She is a class officer for the sophomore class, secretary of the Student Council, a Link Crew leader, a small business owner (through her Entrepreneurial STEM business class), and a member of DECA. In the summer, Ava volunteers her time at summer camps and community events, such as the Chicken Broil.
Junior Abbi Austin works hard in class and maintains high grades. She is studying exercise science and sports medicine through SWCC. She often helps out in the office when she is ahead on her work for other classes, and supports her classmates and teammates with her positive attitude.
Like Abbi, senior Phoenix Hulswitt works hard in class. “I always strive to be the best version of myself,” he said. He is respectful of deadlines, turning his work in on time because he believes that doing so will better prepare him for the real world, where deadlines are not always flexible. Phoenix is a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Balancing schoolwork with athletics can be challenging, but he makes it look easy. Phoenix is also a member of NHS and enjoys helping in the community.
