Letter to the Editor: Spend your money in downtown Manchester
May 27, 2025
The local businesses are facing the same financial challenges as the rest of us. My budget is not huge and I am aware that the little bit I spend is not enough to make much of a difference. However, if we all tried to spend a few dollars locally each week, it would make a difference for them. The feedback of thanks and appreciation from all the local shop owners when we do make that extra effort is why I am sharing this. It really does help keep the shops/restaurants here in town open.
Here is what and where I spent recently. I try to rotate around all the businesses to support them the best I can. I am a mom and we all know you can not act like you have a favorite kid!
Manchester Market $20 local meats from the butcher shop and the quality was amazing!
Evolve $6 gift-basket item, plus time to visit with Jo in her new shop. She has created a beautiful space right on the river with so many unique items. I bought a spider plant when she first opened her shop to help with the air quality in our bathroom. It’s doing amazing (and I live with all boys so that is saying something).
Dragonfly and Birch $27 for a card and gift for a friend. Merrill was able to help offer ideas from within her shop, which I might have not noticed as soon as I shared what type of theme I had in mind and asked her for ideas. She quickly gave me a lot of great ideas and then left me to shop and look around without any pressure.
Manchester Farmers Market $7 for fresh rhubarb and lettuce from different vendors. It made the best strawberry rhubarb pie over the weekend and the lettuce lasted all through the weekend for burgers and sandwiches.
This week I need to restock some vitamins (good lord, I sound old), so I will check in with Sherry at All things green. She has so much more than I expected in her shop. I went once for dog treats and have since found supplements and more for the whole family! I appreciate that she knows we all shop on Amazon and tries to have prices that are reasonable so you can support her shop locally.
Most of the shops have Facebook pages that share their hours or events and what is going on. This has been a helpful way for me to remember all the great things we have here in town. Hoping to hear from you all what shops you have enjoyed recently or plan to check out soon!
