Manchester Wellness Center

The Manchester Wellness Center is now offering full scholarships. Located behind the Middle School off of East Main Street, the Wellness Center offers cardio and strength training equipment as well as group exercise classes and requires a membership.

The scholarships are available because of a new grant provided through the Chelsea Area-Wellness Foundation and the Manchester Coalition as part of the move more initiative for the Manchester community. The grant allows the center to waive membership fees for qualifying applicants. Sharon Fitzsimmons, membership service manager, explained that with the grant they will be able to allow individuals to begin a health and wellness program at the Manchester Wellness Center who weren’t able to before because of financial need.

Because financial need is a requirement, applicants will have to provide a recent 1040 or SSI. A note from the applicant's doctor is also required. Only new members can apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are initially for 3 months then are re-evaluated for possible continuation of 3 more months.

The free memberships will give full access to the facility, including all classes. They will begin with an assessment and equipment orientation. Certified fitness specialist are always available at the center to offer guidance and instruction if needed. If you would like more information about the scholarships, contact Shelley Hehr, Lead Sales Associate at 734-214-0227.

Fitsimmons stated “Our goal is to help individuals move more and live a healthy lifestyle!”

The Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation (CWF) is a tax-exempt, private foundation governed by a volunteer board of directors representing populations included in the school-districts of Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester and Stockbridge, generally referred to as the CWF service area. The mission of the CWF is to create a culture of wellness and foster sustainable improvements in community health through stewardship of our resources, innovative and collaborative grants, and engagement of our residents in the pursuit of healthy life choices.
