Emanuel Steeple Project on Schedule

Those who have watched the Emanuel Church steeple with interest this summer may have noticed an apparent delay over the past few weeks.

After much activity in early summer, with the removal of an old steeple and then, a few weeks later, a new structure put into place, there has been another interval while no workers have been occupied atop Manchester's tallest structure.

According to Keith Clark, one of the project coordinators, the completion of the project is awaiting the arrival of a new finial and cross for the top of the steeple, which is expected in the next several days.

"When they arrive, another man-lift will be ordered up to place the finial and cross on top of the steeple," Clark said.

Once the project gets re-started, it will take about a week to install the remaining roof tiles and get the finial and cross in place once again.

And then, Manchester will once again have a distinctive landmark that can be seen for miles around.
