Just in time for summer, the Manchester District Library now has fishing poles and equipped tackle boxes that can be checked out with your library card!

Today’s libraries collect more than just physical books. They have kept pace with rapidly changing times to offer audiobooks, digital books, databases, music CDs, DVDs, public computers, and more. As libraries have continued to grow and evolve, they have responded to users' changing needs with non-traditional collections. The Manchester District Library has done its part by providing our community with a seed library, as well as science kits, board games, and even a food dehydrator that can be checked out.

Their newest additions to their non-traditional circulating collection are two Worm Gear fishing poles made by South Bend, and accompanying tackle boxes. These items can be checked out for free for one week (but have a late return fee of $1.00 per day.) The equipment must be returned clean, in good repair, and during the library’s open hours (it cannot be returned in the drop boxes). The borrower must have a fishing license from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources if they are age 16 or older. They must also sign a Fishing Equipment Agreement and Liability Waiver at the time of checkout. Minors must have a parent co-sign.

For more information, please call the library at (734) 428-8045 or visit their blog HERE to see the liability waiver in full. To check out the equipment and start fishing, stop by the front desk of the Manchester District Library at 912 City Road.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
