AMI Manchester to receive grant to train workers

Michigan Works! Southeast recently announced that it will receive more than $1.4 million from the Michigan Talent Investment agency to train workers at 27 companies in the region, including AMI Manchester, LLC and ten other companies in Washtenaw County.

The grant awards are part of the state’s Skilled Trades Training Fund, which is now in its fourth year. The Fund provides competitive awards for training that enhances talent, productivity and employee retention while increasing the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s businesses. AMI Manchester, LLC will receive $7,050. This will help the company will develop and retain the talent it needs to compete and grow nationally and globally.

“We are pleased that our business services team was able to help so many companies apply for and receive the grant funds,” said William Sleight, Director of Michigan Works! Southeast. “The training will [help] workers gain new skills so that the companies can thrive in today’s global market,” he said.

In addition to AMI Manchester's award, other Washtenaw County companies receiving awards include: Lyons Consulting Group in Ann Arbor ($26,950), Dexter Research Center in Dexter ($3,780), Quantum Signal, LLC in Saline ($9,000), Mahindra Tractor Assembly, Inc., DBA Mahindra GenZe in Ann Arbor ($9,000), UIS Scada, Inc. in Dexter ($48,960), Navitas Advanced Solutions Group, LLC. in Ann Arbor ($21,685), Advanced Industries in Chelsea ($36,280), Hines Industries, Inc. in Ann Arbor ($21,670), Menlo Innovations in Ann Arbor ($13,500), and Milan Metal Systems, LLC in Milan ($13,800).

Jim Coutu, Business Services Manager for Michigan Works! Southeast says that staff will be working closely with these companies in the next few months to ensure that the companies achieve their training goals. “These grants help both new and existing employees at these companies gain the skills they need to be perform their jobs effectively,” Coutu said.

Michigan Works! Southeast engages employers and job seekers in Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston and Washtenaw Counties to develop today’s workforce and tomorrow’s economy. The agency is part of the statewide Michigan Works! System.
