Community Resource Center's food pantry and CRC office is currently located in the Nellie Ackerson Building at 410 City Road but faces of eviction.

Do you think Manchester could benefit from a community center? Over the last few months, the Community Resource Center has been collecting ideas of what they hope could be a physical hub for non-profits to operate from to provide a centralized and expanded array of services to the Manchester area. On Tuesday, January 16th from 7 - 8:30 pm, the Community Resource Center will be hosting a non-profit roundtable in the Village Room, on the lower level of the library, 912 City Road. All Manchester-area non-profits and churches are invited to send a representative, and any individuals with an interest in this topic are invited to attend.

The Community Resource Center is located in the Nellie Ackerson Building at 410 City Rd in space it rents from the school district, but has been given a year notice to find an alternative location. One primary use of a community center would be to house the Community Resource Center office, food pantry and food storage area. Additional uses being considered for a community center include a Worth Repeating-like resale store, a non-profit coffeeshop or diner, a senior center, meeting space, a clothing closet/exchange spot, an emergency shelter (providing heat, water and electricity), a base for the County’s Meals on Wheels program to operate in our area, a transportation hub which could include access to public transportation or a ride-share program, centralized community call center, another event space, and a location for hosting adult social dances and intergenerational activities. A swimming pool is not being considered.

Do you have ideas for a possible location of, funding for or additional ideas for a community center, or questions about the non-profit roundtable? Contact the Community Resource Center at 734-428-7722.
