IMG_1449A “technical glitch” with AT&T service shut down the United Bank & Trust Manchester and Dexter offices on Friday and Saturday.

Manchester branch manager Ron King said that with no way to verify account information or run transactions, the bank staff “limped along” until 2 p.m. on Friday and then a corporate decision was made to shut down both branches. Manchester clients were advised to do their transactions at the Clinton branch. King also added that at no time was security breached during the outage.

“It was horrible timing,” King said of the Black Friday technical outage. “We were quite busy in the morning, but by afternoon things had slowed down and it seemed like closing the office was the best course of action.”

When service was still not restored on Saturday, King stayed in the locked office to answer phone calls and try to help clients who had questions to the best of his ability.

“When I had exhausted the resources I had, I transferred them to the Clinton office for more answers,” he added.

On Monday morning, the bank was again open for business as usual. King said the staff anticipated a busy day ahead.
