SASHA Farm Needs More Hay to Make it Through the Winter
SASHA Farm, the midwest’s largest farm animal sanctuary, is located right here in Manchester. Founded by Monte Jackson and Dorothy Davies, they have taken in around 400 abused, ill, or otherwise neglected animals. They have all types of animals including cows, horses, goats, oxen, pigs, chicken, ducks, emus, donkeys, as well as dogs and cats and unless SASHA Farm is able to raise more money, some of these animals won’t have enough to eat this winter.
SASHA Farm has started a hay drive on gofundme.com. Their goal is to raise $8,000 to purchase enough hay to last through the winter. For those able to help, the website is http://www.gofundme.com/sasha-hay-drive. To date, they have raised just over half of the amount needed. More funds, or donations of hay, will be needed to make it through the winter. For those who are able to donate hay directly, please contact Christine Wagner, Assistant Director. They are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax deductible.
SASHA was the name of one of the first animals that was rescued. She was a beautiful Border Collie/Spaniel mix. After her death, Monte and Dorothy Jackson named the sanctuary after her. SASHA also stands for Sanctuary And Safe Haven for Animals. Christine Wagner indicated that they are a non-profit sanctuary that relies almost entirely on donations. They receive a few grants, however, the vast majority of their budget comes from generous donors.
More donations are needed. To feed just the cows for one week requires approximately $800. Donations can be made online with the link above, or by mail to SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary, PO Box 222, Manchester, MI 48158. Their website, www.sashafarm.org also has a wish list of non-monetary items. Contact them at (734)428-9617 to make arrangements for a non-monetary donation. Of course, volunteers are always welcome as well.
