badge-largeAs many of you already know, the school's bus yard was vandalized during the night.  The actions directly caused the schools to be canceled for today, extending the holiday break a day longer.  The Mirror has contacted Cherie Vannatter, the school's superintendent and also the Sheriff's Department for updates and the following  information was received:

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:

"When transportation staff reported for duty on Thursday morning, January 9, it was discovered that all of Manchester Community Schools’ buses had been vandalized. We believe this was the result of a student prank that concluded with damage to the vehicles. We are reviewing our security cameras and have been working with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Unfortunately, this has had a negative impact on the community, our students and families, due to this being the fourth day school has now been cancelled. We are hopeful we can resume classes tomorrow, barring any unforeseen inclement weather."

FROM THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:

· Multiple buses were unplugged from the diesel engine heaters.

· Multiple tires had valve cores tamper with—causing them to lose air.

· The combination caused the buses to be inoperable; therefore school had to be canceled.

· Yes, we have camera footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Corporal Steve Wallen at the Manchester Sheriff’s station (734-428-8829).
