Detroit Lions Coming to Manchester to Raise Money for Manchester Youth Football
A fundraiser has been announced for the new Manchester Youth Football program. Members of the Detroit Lions have agreed to come play a basketball game against Manchester Schools faculty and staff on May 2nd to help raise money for the Manchester Youth Football program. Tentatively, former players Herman Moore, Corey Schlesinger, and Rob Rubick will join 3 current lions to make up the Lions squad.
Confirmed players for the Manchester team are Wes Gall (Coach), Cherie Vannatter, Jennifer Mayes, Brian Barnard, Mark Ball, Corey Feather, Cathy O’Mara, and Joanna VanRaden. “Our goal is to have a couple of people from each building. We are not necessarily looking for the best athletes but for the fan favorites! This is a non-competitive game, almost Harlem Globetrotter-esque” said Amelia Woods.
In addition to the game, there will also be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and a raffle for playing opportunities. (Kids will have the opportunity to enter for a chance to have their name drawn to play on the Detroit Lions team, sit on their bench, and be the team water boy/girl). There will also be a FUN halftime!
The event is May 2nd at 7:00 PM in the High School gym. Tickets are $10 per person (kids 3 and under are free) and will be available after February 8th. Event organizers are hoping to have tickets available at one of the Main St. merchants as well as the athletic department and through several parents, but details are still being worked out.
