Children’s Community Garden Damaged

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Possible vandalism was discovered in the children’s garden at the Manchester Community Garden this Thursday afternoon. A bench was tipped over into the fence and the door was opened and ripped off the hinges. The structure can be repaired, but animals opportunistically damaged many of the plants.

The Community Garden, located on the bus loop off of Dutch Drive, actually consists of two gardens — one divided into plots rented to community members and the other tended by Klager elementary students in spring and fall and the Klager Kids Club in summer.

This summer, the Klager Kids Club will care for and snack on produce from the children’s garden. Later in the growing season, they will hold a weekly farmers market to sell excess harvest.

Police were notified. The club will assess the the damage next week and determine what it can salvage.
