This Year’s Chicken Broil Features New Drive Thru!
Manchester’s signature event, The Chicken Broil, is this Thursday, 7/17 at 4pm. Within four hours, 11,000 chickens will be broiled to perfection at Alumni Memorial Field.
$10 dollars gets you ½ a chicken, the famous coleslaw, radishes, chips, and a drink. Soft drinks and ice cream are available for an extra charge.
This year features a drive-thru option, in addition to the standard dine-in and carry-out. The entrance to the drive-thru service is on Duncan Street. Volunteers will be present to guide motorists. High school principal Kevin Mower has organized many high school students to staff the new drive-thru lane.
Those who dine-in can watch the car show, listen to Billy Lewis and the Soul Backs, or enjoy the live broadcast from WLEN.
The Broil is one of Manchester’s largest and most important events. The proceeds go to numerous local charities and institutions. Members of the very same charities and institutions supply the more than 600 volunteers need to run the massive event.
Tickets are available from participating merchants for $9. Manchester area merchants participating are Ash Auto, FirstMerit Bank, Fredonia Grocery, Linda’s Diner, Manchester Feed & Supply, Manchester True Value Hardware, Sew Write, Wacker’s BP, Hungry Wolf Restaurant, United Producers, Carol’s Cut & Curl, Coffee Mill Cafe, Comerica Bank, Frank’s Place Restaurant, Gistinger & Gistinger Law Office, Keith’s Barber Shop, Manchester Antique Mall, Manchester Market, Manchester Pharmacy, Manchester Village Offices, Marti’s Salon, Pyramid Office Supply, Sutton Agency, United Bank & Trust, and the Village Tap.
