Letter to the Editor: Laurie Carey Responds to Township Treasurer Race Letter

In response to Sybil Kolon’s Letter to the Editor published on July 28, 2014.

Last Week the Manchester Mirror received and posted their first ‘Letter to the Editor’. I am impressed with The Mirror’s forward thinking by creating a policy for future Letters, and providing a new forum for the community to respond to, as well.  The Staff of the Mirror has done an excellent job with their publication highlighting local news and current events, and I enjoy opening it up every week.

In response to last week’s letter, I would like to thank past Township Board member Sybil Kolon for her support in my campaign to retain my position as Treasurer.  Her knowledge and understanding of the intricacies involved with the responsibility of this office should highlight the importance of continuing the job that I was appointed to fill.

I take my job as both Treasurer and Board Member very seriously, and have spent the past year creating positive changes from the Treasurer’s Office.  I have consistently been a strong advocate on the Board for protecting our funds and conservatively spending our tax dollars in every board vote.

As in any election, voters should be cautious when hearing information that just seems too hard to believe. It is easy for rumors to start when people use misinformation, and drama is created when looking for problems that don’t exist.  We have a strong and motivated Township Board with the best interest of the residents of our Township as our priority.

I hope that I have earned your vote and trust by the work and dedication that I have done as Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer and Board member and 8 year commitment to our Township Office.  I look forward to continue doing my best to serve the Township and will continue to have an open door policy for any problems and concerns that you may have.

Most importantly please remember to VOTE Tuesday August 5^th, there are many key issues on this ballot concerning both the Village and the Township.
