American Legion Auxiliary Plans Veterans Day Potluck
In honor of the men and women who have served the United States through military service, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 117 will join fellow ALA members across the country in celebrating their dedication and sacrifice at a potluck dinner on Sunday November 9, 2014. The dinner will be held at 1:00 PM at the Old Legion Hall, Legacy Realty Building 207 Duncan St, Manchester. Doors open at noon. This event is free and open to all veterans and their families regardless if they are a current member or not. Post 117 is providing chicken for the potluck.
American Legion Unit 117 is a member of The Second District Association, which serves as the coordinating link for its member units and the Department of Michigan. This Association is comprised of 27 Units in Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe and Washtenaw countries and represents over 2000 Auxiliary members. These Auxiliary members help serve the needs of 703,000 Veterans in the State of Michigan.
This potluck is just one of the ways the American Legion Auxiliary honors service members – past and present. It’s also a opportunity for participants to renew friendships and support the community. “It is important to our organization, and to our country, to remember those who have sacrificed so that Americans can enjoy a better way of life”, said Past American Legion Auxiliary National President, Nancy Brown-Park.

American Legion Auxiliary members have dedicated themselves for nearly a century to meeting the needs of our nation’s veterans, military and their families – both here and abroad. They volunteer millions of hours yearly, with a value of nearly $2 billion. As part of the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization, Auxiliary volunteers across the country also honor veterans and military through annual scholarships and with ALA Girls State programs, teaching high school juniors to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
