Middle School Students Participate in Lions Club Peace Poster Contest

For more than 25 years, Lions Clubs around the world have sponsored the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. The purpose of this this art contest is to encourage young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. Millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest and this year, their ranks included Manchester Middle School art students.

This year the contest’s theme is “Peace, Love and Understanding.” Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 were eligible to participate. Each poster was judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Posters advance through several judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international. Eventually, at the international level, one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected.

Middle School art teachers Carrie Resh and Angela Griffin oversaw the participation of their students in the local contest sponsored by allowed their current art students to participate in the Lions Club Peace poster contest sponsored by the Manchester Lions Club. The poster drawn by sixth-grader Sky Chandler was the overall winner and will go on for further competition. She was awarded $50. Also recognized and receiving gift certificates were: Elijah Herron, Isabelle Bert, Emily Mast, Jorren Palmeter, Owen Whitney, Madilyn Chandler, Hope Kroll, Ryan Mann, Paul Tistle and Phoenix Waters.
