Sharon United Methodist Church Plans Mission Trip to Haiti
For the fourth year in a row, members and friends of Sharon United Methodist Church will head to Mizak, Haiti as part of their Volunteers in Mission project.
Mizak is located in the southwest part of Haiti, and as part of the mission the team will be working on a variety of tasks. The ongoing work of this and other mission teams has greatly improved conditions in Mizak, a small village in of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake of 2010.
A birthing and new mothers’ health clinic, a solar system and other electrical projects, as well as computer and photography workshops for vocational training, will be part of the focus of this year’s mission team.
This year’s team includes team leader Joe Turk, accompanied by Andrea Clark, Nicole Drake, Pastor Pete Harris, Kelsey Winchell, Brook Fowler, and the Williamson family of Beaver Island, parishioners of Pastor Harris at a previous church.
The team has been fundraising all year long with scrap drives and other events that have included the entire community. On Jan. 17, an all-day scrapbooking workshop and vendor show attended by 26 women from the Manchester community and beyond raised more than $1,100 to donate to the mission team’s cause. The team is profoundly grateful for all the support it has received from the congregation and across the community.
On Feb. 22, the team will be commissioned during the Sunday worship service at Sharon United Methodist Church. Those who have supported this project throughout the year are welcome to attend and pray for the success of this mission.
