On the afternoon of Thursday, March 5, Klager Elementary students were treated to an exciting afternoon of fun with March Is Reading Month guest authors David Anthony and Charles David Clasman. The two Michigan authors pen the children’s reading series: Heroes A 2 Z, Knightscares, and Mystery Underground. All three chapter book series focus on children as the real heroes.

Highlights of the afternoon included juggling and yo-yos, a knighting ceremony, a blow horn, and exceptional real life stories from the authors. Children and teachers alike laughed out loud at a childhood story from one author about his mailbox and peanut butter, and an even crazier story from the other author about his “zombie uncles.”

Throughout their time with the children, the authors made personal connections with their audience, sharing pictures and stories about their own children. They dedicated time to sharing with children what it was like for them to become writers and all the joys they receive from it. They even took time to answer questions at the end of their presentation, talking about the challenges of the writing process (a writer is never done editing!), and the joy and adventure reading brings to people’s lives.

The entire enchanting afternoon was made possible thanks to the financial support of Klager’s PTO of the March Is Reading Month events at the school.

Young readers were entranced and inspired by the stories shared by Anthony and Clasman!
