The Associated Petroleum Industries of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will give a presentation on oil drilling in the Manchester area at the Manchester Township Board Meeting, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 7:30 pm, in the board room at 275 S. Macomb St., Manchester. John Griffin, Executive Director of the Associated Petroleum Industries of Michigan, and Adam Wygant, Section Chief, Permitting & Technical Services Section at the MDEQ Office of Oil, Gas, and Minerals, will be the speakers. The presentation will be 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a question and answer period.
This presentation and the discussion afterward will likely influence the township board’s decision whether or not to consider a moratorium on oil and gas activity in the township. They’ve received pressure recently from a local group, Stewards of Western Washtenaw and a regional group, Citizens For Oil-Free Backyards to consider a moratorium. Within the last year, Scio Township and the City of Dexter have both enacted moratoriums, and last month Sharon Township joined them, enacting a 12 month moratorium.
This meeting is open to the public, regardless of which township you reside in.
