A look at scenes of Manchester in days gone by are among the many surprises to be found in the Manchester Area Historical Society’s 2016 calendar.

Since 1984, the Manchester Area Historical Society (MAHS) has produced an annual historical calendar. Each year, the calendar theme features a unique aspect of Manchester area history.

The new 2016 calendar, “Living History,” is a continuation of a collection of oral histories as told in the words of long-time Manchester residents. Sharon Curtis, the calendar’s editor for the second year, conducted a series of interviews with nearly a dozen citizens and has compiled them into engaging stories of Manchester’s past. Other stories were contributed by Historical Society member Karen Weidmayer.

As is its tradition, the calendar will make a formal debut at the Manchester High School Alumni Banquet set for June 20. Following that, the calendars will be delivered to local businesses for sale ($10 per calendar) throughout the coming year.

The locally-produced yearly calendar is the Society’s major fund-raiser. Proceeds from the sales of these collectible calendars help the Manchester Area Historical Society’s mission of continuing to complete the local historical record.

MAHS is a small, friendly group with a lively sense of history. Regular monthly meetings are held September through June, the second Thursday of the month, 7:30 p.m., often at the Village Room on the lower level of Manchester Village Hall. Occasionally, meetings are held at a different site; please check the MAHS website for updates and announcements.
