Manchester Middle School Builders Club recently competed in several contests sponsored by Kiwanis International Builders Club. Each year the 45,000 club members from around the world are encouraged to compete in a variety of contests including, Essay, Speech, Poster, Single Service Project, Club Scrapbook and Service Leadership Awards. Winners at the club level are submitted to the Michigan District for competition, with those winners forwarded to Kiwanis International for consideration. Manchester students won in several categories this year, over students from all over the nation and world. Click HERE to view the list of winners.

MMS Builders Club Scrapbook committee submitted their scrapbook to the Michigan District where they were chosen for competition at Kiwanis International. The club was notified in May that they won 1st place in the international competition. Scrapbook Committee members include 8th graders Jessica Lacy, Paige Bourland, Zach Chandler, Madilyn Chandler, Liz O’Hotzke, Jocelyn Boote, Katie Wakevainen, Kelsea Nau and 7th grader Quinn Bourland. Their award winning scrapbook will be on display at the Kiwanis International Convention later this month in Indianapolis and at the Kiwanis Michigan District Convention in August.

Service Leadership Awards were presented to three 8th grade members based on a combination of factors. Recipients were selected based on their academic status, social interactions, extra curricular activities, Builders Club involvement and community service through other organizations. Nominees had to be recommended by the Builders Club Faculty Advisor – Principal, Dr. Shanna Spickard and a teacher, as well as receive an outside recommendation. This year’s recipients of the Manchester Middle School Builders Club Service Leadership Award are Liz O’Hotzke, Katie Wakevainen and Paige Bourland.

Liz O’Hotzke was also recognized as the winner of Michigan District of Builders Club Service Leadership Award. As the winner of district award, she was submitted for consideration at the Kiwanis International competition. Liz O’Hotzke was selected as one of four winners by Kiwanis International and will receive a medallion, plaque and $100 American Express Gift Card.

Logan Huff was chosen as the Michigan District Winner in the Poster competition and won 3rd Place in the Kiwanis International Competition.
