Amcor & Staples Donate Backpacks & School Supplies to Manchester Students
Amcor Rigid Plastics and Staples are helping Manchester students get ready for the new school year. The two companies provided 50 donated backpacks filled with school supplies to students in Manchester Community Schools on Aug. 19.
Manchester Family Services distributed the items to elementary, middle and high school students in need as part of Food Gatherers Day at Manchester Family Services, which also provides food and bill payment assistance for local families. Amcor Rigid Plastics has partnered with Manchester Family Services since 2010 to provide students with backpacks full of school supplies. This year Staples donated the pens, spiral notebooks, folders, paper, pencils and other supplies.
“We’re pleased to partner with Staples and Manchester Family Services to assist students in Manchester Community Schools,” said Joanne Kemner, an Amcor Rigid Plastics senior commercial finance analyst and social responsibility committee member. “We want students to have everything they need to start the school year off on the right foot.”
“In July, students pick out a color and theme for their backpacks. This information is shared with Amcor employees so they can purchase the backpacks and then fill them with supplies for distribution at our Food Gatherers Day in August,” said Mary Sue Moore, secretary of the Manchester Family Services board.
“The parents, children and Manchester Family Services board members are very appreciative of the donated backpacks and school supplies. Amcor continues to be a generous contributor to the Manchester community through its long-term affiliation with Manchester Family Services.”
Manchester Community Schools also received $400 worth of hand sanitizer, tissues, headphones, batteries and resealable plastic bags from Amcor Rigid Plastics for student and classroom usage.
