No More Crab Races – Manchester Community Schools Foundation to Premiere Family Trivia Night
The Manchester Community School Foundation was sad to report last week that their much beloved Crab Races are now a thing of the past. Due to changes in the charitable gaming laws, increased oversight and greater enforcement of state rules, the Foundation can no longer hold Crab Races and award cash prizes. Read about last year’s Crab Races HERE. After discussing other formats, organizers decided to let the crabs rest and focus on other avenues of fundraising.
This year, the Foundation will be premiering a Family Trivia Night, to be held the first Saturday in November. This will be a fun event for the whole family. In order to have questions appropriate for a wide range of ages and a variety of interests, they are asking the students of Manchester Community Schools to help them. If you would like to contribute a question please send it, along with the answer, to manchestertrivia@gmail.com. Also, please include your first name, your grade and your teacher’s name. Then get your friends and family together to attend the event and see if we use your question! Concessions will be available. More details will be coming soon.
So, what does the Foundation do and why do they need to fund-raise? The Manchester Community Schools Foundation is a non-profit group dedicated to providing funds for projects and items outside the district’s operating budget, as well as providing a pass through for After Prom and for dispersing scholarships for Manchester High School graduates. The Foundation awards the money it raises via grants written by teachers and staff of the Manchester Community Schools. Just a few of the programs currently in action that have received grants are the ReadWell program at Klager, Scholastic Magazines at the Middle School, and cat dissection at the high school.
There are other ways to support the Foundation if you can’t attend a Trivia Night. For $35 you can become a patron. You can also sponsor a patronship in honor of your child’s class or as a gift to their teacher. Or make a tax-deductible donation at anytime. Visit their webpage (a work in progress) and “Like” them on Facebook for more information! The Manchester Community Schools Foundation looks forward to supporting something that benefits YOUR child soon!
