Chi Bro Park, a Manchester village park located on Ann Arbor Hill Road north of Main Street, plays host to many things from the weekly farmers market to summer volleyball games and this year, to part of the Annual Canoe Race festivities. But as of Friday evening, it is playing host to something new. On behalf of the Friends of the Library, Friends member L.B. Hilbert installed a Little Free Library in Chi Bro Park.

The Little Free Library is stocked with books of all sorts for children and adults. Everyone is welcome to take a book and read it. They can keep it, return it when they are done, or donate a book in its place. It will be checked on and restocked regularly by Friends of the Library member Sue LaRocque.

Manchester’s Little Free Libraries are part of a larger movement. As of January 2016, there were over 36,000 registered Little Free Libraries in the world. Click HERE to read more.

This Little Free Library was originally installed outside of the Ackerson building on City Road in which the two preschools, Manchester First Steps and the school district central office are all located but interfered with snow removal and was not being used as often as expected so was moved to Chi Bro Park. The Friends maintain a second, Little Free Library outside of Linda’s Diner on M-52 south of the Pleasant Lake Road intersection.

The Little Free Libraries are stocked with books donated to the Friends for their ongoing book sale on the second floor of the library. The Friends hold donation days the first Saturday of the month from 10 am to noon in the Village room from March to October. If anyone is interested in helping the Friends for donation days they can just stop on by or email them at FOTMDL912@gmail.com.
