Daisy Girl Scout Troop builds Community Garden sign
As part of earning their Daisy journey badge, Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden, Manchester’s Daisy troop 40673 had to choose a gardening related project to benefit the community. Since they meet at the United Methodist Church up the hill from the Community Garden, and the Community Garden’s sign was worn and faded, they decided they would like to make a new sign for the Community Garden. Over the course of 2 meetings, with the construction help of a parent, the 13 kindergarteners and 1st graders designed and painted the very colorful sign. At their end of the year picnic and bridging ceremony on Sunday, the adults placed the sign into the pre dug holes and the girls filled in the holes with soil and rocks. The kindergarteners will continue next year as 1st grade Daisy while the 1st graders have bridged to Brownies.
The Community Garden will be plowed this week and gardeners will be able to begin planting their plots. There are still plots available to rent. If you are interested in a plot, email dutchgardenpartner@gmail.com or click here for the application.
