Manchester First Steps program moving locations
First Steps, which offers Play & Learn groups to Manchester families with children age birth to three years of age announced this week that they will be moving from their own rooms on one side of the Ackerson Building (middle door off the parking lot) into a shared space in the Manchester Early Childhood Center (MECC) hallway on the other side of the Ackerson building (right door off the parking lot.)
Longtime Parents As Teachers Parent Educator, Beckie Brewis, has enrolled in the graduate program of the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work full time this fall. Brewis stated that it has been a long time dream of her’s to earn her master’s degree in the field of social work and that with the loss of funding for the early childhood programs that she coordinated in Manchester, this seemed like the perfect time to make that dream a reality.
Brewis will continue to facilitate a Thursday morning First Steps group this fall but does not feel able to maintain the current playrooms in Ackerson with her new schedule. Besides less maintenance, this move will bring benefits. “Sharing the space with MECC will increase collaboration opportunities with their early childhood programs and events,” she stated.
If you are interested in more information about First Steps, there will be First Steps fall information available at MECC’s Open House being held this Wednesday, August 31 from 6-7:30 pm.
