Letter to the Editor: Fireworks Location

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

By the time this reaches the press the 2018 Fourth of July Fireworks will be over for this year. People do not like change and most people who live in Manchester know where the fireworks are displayed at Carr Park.

Anyone who has a pet knows how they can be affected by fireworks. Panic attacks are very real and thunder shirts don’t always work.

Woodhill Senior Apartments are directly across the street from Carr Park which is surrounded by woods and swamp that are similar to a wildlife refuge. Behind the apartments the senior citizens who live here feed and watch out for feral cats and sandhill cranes. We watch every spring when the baby cranes are born as the adult cranes show their babies how to eat and spread their wings. Every year when the fireworks go off at Carr Park the baby cranes get separated from their parents and we listen for a week later as the adult cranes screech for their babies who are never found. If they are affected so are other wildlife animals.

Where the football field is located which is also enclosed by fence couldn’t the fireworks be displayed on that field?
