Letter to the Editor: Thank you for helping to make it a successful prom dress boutique
March 16th, 2019
We wrapped up our 6th annual Prom Dress Boutique on Saturday, and we all agreed it was a great event. We had lots of girls and their moms or grandmoms, plus a few best friends, and a family that came, found a dress, left, and then came back with a friend that needed a dress (referral bonus).
We heard a lot of “Where do you get all these dresses???” and “This is so great!” We had a few girls that wanted to try on a dozen or more dresses (including our favorite Cyndi Lauper-esque donation). We had one girl that walked in, zeroed in on a dress, took it to the changing room, put it on, came out and said “This is it!” And honestly looked fabulous with about 5 minutes of effort.
We had girls from Manchester, Clinton, Chelsea, Grass Lake, Adrian, Jackson, Stockbridge, Pinckney, Dexter, and Brooklyn, possibly others I am forgetting. Did we solve all the world’s problems? Nope. But we gave away at least 26 dresses, saving those families a bit of cash, and we saved those dresses from closet oblivion, and we had a good time helping girls find unique dresses for Prom. We also pulled aside a rack-full of dresses to donate forward to the Lincoln High School Clothes Closet, and pulled a few dresses for the Drama Club to use in their upcoming production of Into the Woods.
The remaining dresses have been carefully packed away in protective bags, to be stored by a much-appreciated community member with a dry basement. Additional donations of clean dresses in good repair can be taken to the Manchester District Library during hours they are open. If you’d like to support this event, watch for our facebook posts next February, or email us at manchesterladiessociety@gmail.
Great work, Ladies! And thanks, supportive community that makes this event successful!
