Letter to the Editor: Excited to sell at Acorn Farmers Market
May 8, 2019
To whom it may concern,
I have been a vendor at the Manchester Farmers Market in Manchester for seven years and have been on their planning committee for a couple years. We grow produce on about 10 acres and currently sell at several farmers markets. We also raise cattle (beefalo) and pigs for harvest which we also sell at the markets. When I heard about plans to open an Argus Farm Stop like store in Manchester, I quickly agreed this method of selling our products would be much better for our farm business. While we enjoy the direct sells to customers, time is a real issue for our family. The idea that we could drop off items to sell on consignments, saves us hours of time. Having enough volume of produce is not the real issue for us, it’s bringing the right amount that will sell at the market. If we take too much, some items have suffered from being in the summer heat for hours and are wasted if not sold. In a store, with proper conditions, the more fragile items could be sold over several days instead of hours.
You might ask why we don’t currently sell at Argus. We haven’t attempted to be get on their vendor list. We are instead excited about helping out this new store in Manchester.
Sincerely,
Ben Marks
