Update on Ford Village Industries Tour – Sunday July 28
submitted by Ray Berg, Manchester Area Historical Society
Just a reminder that the Ford Village industries Tour will occur Sunday, July 28, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. This “come-and-go as you please” tour will examine the impact of Henry Ford’s creation of small town, village industries at former mill sites in Manchester and Sharon Mills. The four stops include the Manchester Village Offices lobby and library, the MAHS Blacksmith Shop, the MAHS Kingsley-Jenter House (including our newly opened museum), and the Sharon Mills site. See the Manchester Mirror article on-line or the print edition of July 10 for full details. The tour is sponsored by the Manchester Area Historical Society and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation.
Our major update is the presence of Marlene Lentz at the Village Library from 1-4 PM during the tour. Marlene was an employee of the Ford Plant in Manchester during its operation, and will answer questions about what it was like to work there, what she built, and how it felt to be a part of this novel industrial approach. We’re also working on having other former Ford employees of Manchester or Sharon Mills present.
Come out and learn some local history!
