August 3rd Thursday event to feature music, food, history and a rubber duck race!
In the mood for the sights, sounds and tastes of a street festival here in the Village? You don’t have long to wait long. August 15th is the next Manchester Third Thursday event. This free event featuring entertainment, food, kid activities and shopping begins at 5 pm and runs until 9 pm in downtown Manchester.
After visiting the Manchester Farmers Market in Chi Bro Park which begins at 3:30 pm and runs until 7 pm, cross M-52 and check out the newly-completed River Raisin Park complete with a fishing pier and boardwalk out over the river which takes you up to the Main Street Bridge.
Once you are on Main Street, visit the downtown restaurants for their international food crawl specials between 5 and 9 pm. Over the Edge, Frank’s Place, The Village Tap and Two Black Sheep will all be participating.
Shop the artisan and vendor market set up on Adrian Street, which will be closed to traffic, or sit back and relax in the covered public seating area to enjoy live performances by Cooper Young at 5 pm, Dance With Heart Studios performance from 6:15-6:45 pm, The Y-Town Hoolies at 7 pm, and Shannon Lee Music at 8 pm.
This Third Thursday event will feature at street festival favorite, the Duck Race, a fund raiser for the Manchester Co-op Preschool. Leading up to the duck race, participants will be able to buy specific numbers, then a large number of rubber ducks with numbers written on their undersides are dumped into the river off the side of the bridge. The number on the first duck to cross the finish line is the winning number.
Returning favorites from previous Third Thursday events include free hayrides, the Kids Alley, face painting and henna by The Facepaint Faerie, a mobile photo booth by Throw Yo Hands Up Entertainment, 3D Chalk Art by Chris M. Monaghan & friends, Singe the Fire Twirler – Mandy Claire, Shannon Seidelman & Divine Shimmies Belly Dancers, $1 flower specials at the Flower Garden, and booths featuring local businesses.
The Manchester Historical Society will have a number of events in conjunction with Third Thursday as well. The Blacksmith Shop will be open with Demos from 4 to 8 pm. The Kingsley-Jenter House will be open with their newly created historical museum and gift shop from 5 to 9 pm. The Historical Society will hold a Historic Walking Tour from 6 to 7 pm. This tour will focus on “Fargos, VanDuyn, Kiefs – Whose House Was the Best?” To participate in the tour, meet in front of Comerica Bank at 6 pm.
