Free diabetes screening at Aug. 22 Farmers Market

This Thursday (August 22), staff from Dr. Evelyn Eccles’ office will be at the Farmers Market, testing people for diabetes and pre-diabetes with the HbA1C test. The test is free and results will be provided directly to you. This is the third year this free health screening will be done at the Farmers Market, thanks to Dr. Eccles’ office and 5 Healthy Towns Foundation.

The Manchester Farmers Market is at Chi-Bro Park on Thursdays from 3:30-7 pm.

Whether or not you participate in this free health screening, if you have diabetes you are eligible to participate in the Diabetes Improvement Program, which is a series of workshops to help get your diabetes under control long term. If you are interested in participating in this program or would like more information, contact the National Kidney Foundation at 800-482-1455.

The program will be taught by Gayla Martin, RN from Dr. Eccles’ office. The program lasts for one year, with weekly meetings for four months, bi-weekly meetings for two months, then monthly meetings for six months. Meetings will start in mid-late September, will be held at the Manchester Wellness Center from 6-7 pm.

DIABETES IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM--Informational meeting will be held starting at 6 pm on September 18, 2019 at the Manchester Wellness Center. The program starts at 6 pm on October 2, 2019 at the Manchester Wellness Center. The program is free to participants because of funders, 5 Healthy Towns Foundation and the National Kidney Foundation. Note – if a participant’s health insurance covers this program, insurance will be billed.

Manchester Wellness Center is located at 710 E. Main Street, Manchester; behind Riverside Intermediate School.
