Chain Gang headquarters moving to Library

For more than a decade, Manchester’s Chain Gang’s home base has been Pyramid Office Supply and Emporium on Main Street. With Pyramid’s owner Mann Baki’s retirement and the closing of the store, the Chain Gang’s headquarters are moving across the Village to the Manchester District Library. Christine Baisden, who heads up the Chain Gang as well as being a longtime employee of Pyramid stated, “The Chain Gang is continuing! It is very sad that Pyramid is closing but we are grateful to the Library.”

The Chain Gang is a charity network which collects knitted and crocheted items from area knitters and crocheters and distributes them to a number of area hospitals for patients. They collect premie hats, chemo caps for women and men, shawls, lapghans, and full-size blankets. Seasonal and holiday-themed premie caps are in the highest demand but all premie hats will eventually be used.

If you would like to participate all you need to do is drop off your finished yarn creations at the front desk of the Manchester District Library located at 912 City Road, anytime they are open. Do you have knitted or crocheted squares you aren’t sure what to do with? Drop them off and a volunteer can turn them into a shawl or blanket. Please note the content of the yarn of all of the projects donated, if known, so that can be noted on the tag that will be attached before being donated. Some knitters and crocheters in the Chain Gang rely on donated yarn. If you have yarn to donate, this also can be dropped off at the Library front desk.

The Library has limited space, so Chain Gang storage will be more limited than at Pyramid, but it should continue to serve the same function as a distribution hub, just on a smaller scale!

Questions? Leave a message for Baisden at the front desk of the Library. She will be in frequently to sort donations and tag items for distribution.
