Family History Guild to welcome guest speaker
The local Family History Guild will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 19, starting at 6:30 pm.
“November has historically been dedicated to researching veterans or different topics related to veterans,” said Charlotte Major, one of the organizers of the Guild. “In the past we have often shared how and where to research veterans, as well as discussing different web sites and their accuracy.
“This year, we will have a speaker, Dennis Skupinski, from the Michigan Military Heritage Museum in Grass Lake.”
Skupinski, who is a volunteer at both the Military Heritage Museum and the Yankee Air Museum, also served as the chair of Michigan’s World War I Centennial Commission and the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II in Michigan. In addition, he is a collector of military uniforms and equipment dating from 1900-2004. His topic will be “Michigan in World War I: Stories of the Home Front.” This presentation will cover Michigan’s contribution to the World War, some important people, and their contributions to the war effort.
This meeting will be held in the Village Council chambers, next to the sheriff’s department on the lower level of the village and library building. Please park in the lower level lot for easy accessibility and to allow the front parking lot to be used by library patrons. The community is invited to attend this special informational meeting
The guild’s monthly “lock-in” that happens once a month on Saturdays, after library hours, is a well-attended group of residents who are interested in researching their family’s roots. This month’s lock-in will be Saturday, Nov. 16, from 2-5 pm. Participants are invited to come when they can and stay as long as they are able.
The group will not be meeting or having a lock-in during the month of December, so the next meeting will be held in January 2020.
