CROP Walkers from 2019.

Submitted by Lon Nordeen

Once again, your neighbors and friends ask for your support for a cause right here in Manchester. You can make a monetary contribution and/or walk 1-3 miles around the community on October 4, from 1-3 pm starting at the Manchester United Methodist Church, 501 Ann Arbor Street.

The 2020 walk will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines, which means walkers need to commit and follow 6 feet or more social distance; mask wearing is optional. Also, if volunteers are concerned about safety, they can walk on their own and still support the cause.

A good portion of the funds raised by the local CROP Walk program stay here and support programs run by the Community Resource Center (CRC), Manchester Family Services (MFS) and the Manchester Area Senior Citizens Council. Also, funds from previous CROP Hunger Walk community-sponsored Church World Service events went to help the people hurt in the recent hurricanes. Please support your neighbors in Manchester, across the US, and around the world who rely on food assistance programs.

Last year there were 45 walkers here in Manchester, who raised $3,000. Each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25 percent of the funds it raises to hunger-fighting programs in its own community. Your support through your church, school, or direct donations helps causes right here in town, around the nation, and throughout the world! While the primary focus is to reduce hunger around the world, your efforts will also support the needy right here in our community. As you know, the COVID-19 situation has expanded the need for all of us to help those in need for food support right here in Michigan, around America, and the world.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations and groups to raise funds to reduce hunger at home and around the world. A Manchester CROP Walk has been held every year since 1995—25 years—and local contributors have raised more than $130,000 for this important charity! Thank you!
